There are a good number of reasons why students in
Bangladesh fail in English. That English is not their
native language is the main reason. In other words,
students have no good feeling with English. Very few of
them are earnest in learning English. What the students
seek is to cross the stairs of examination. To most of them
learning English is unpleasant and examination is fearful.
Teaching English as a foreign language becomes very
difficult when the learners are not mentally keen to the
subject. The most important matter is that the text books
in different classes are not harmonious with the stages and
the standard of the learners. Finally the motto of the
questions in the public examination includes cramming
rather than learning the language.
